Sioux Falls, S.D. — Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center has been awarded the Heart Failure Advanced Certification (HFAC) by DNV, a leading accrediting organization. The recognition confirms the hospital’s high standards in diagnosing and treating heart failure, including early-stage testing, advanced therapies, and measurable outcomes for patient care.
“This certification demonstrates our strong commitment to delivering quality, evidence-based care to heart failure patients,” said Dr. Ronald Place, Regional President and CEO of Avera McKennan. “It affirms our team’s clinical expertise, multidisciplinary approach, and dedication to continuous improvement—all of which help improve patient outcomes and strengthen our leadership in cardiac care.”
The DNV certification is based on the latest 2022 guidelines from the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and Heart Failure Society of America. It also aligns with standards set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). A key component of the certification is its Quality Management System, which ensures that hospitals track, evaluate, and improve care over time.
“Achieving Heart Failure Advanced Certification reflects a hospital’s commitment to excellence,” said Kelly Proctor, President of DNV Healthcare USA Inc. “It shows your community that you are delivering the highest level of care possible.”
The recognition positions Avera McKennan among a select group of hospitals nationwide that meet DNV’s rigorous requirements for heart failure treatment and patient safety.
