Synergy AI, a leading domestic medical technology company, has unveiled an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solution capable of detecting arrhythmia with an impressive 91.7% accuracy. Arrhythmia, a condition characterized by irregular heart rhythms, can be difficult to diagnose due to its intermittent nature. If left untreated, arrhythmia can lead to severe complications such as strokes, heart failure, and even cardiac arrest, earning it the nickname “heart assassin.
Founded in 2018 by Professor Shin Tae-young of Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital, Synergy AI aims to revolutionize healthcare through innovative AI-driven solutions. In an interview, CEO Shin emphasized the challenge of integrating cutting-edge AI technology into the medical field, noting the high barriers to entry due to the specialized nature of healthcare. “We identified a new market—a ‘blue ocean’—and set out to create synergy by combining the expertise of AI developers with that of medical professionals,” he said.
The company is now preparing to seek pre-market approval (510k) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), marking its entry into the U.S. market. Synergy AI plans to expand its technology beyond arrhythmia detection to also predict strokes and heart failure.
In its efforts to grow, Synergy AI has received support from the G-Valley Medical Device Development Support Center, a joint initiative of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and Korea University Guro Hospital. This center assists domestic medical device companies with product development and international expansion. Through the support of G-Valley, Synergy AI has engaged in 26 meetings with investors and potential clients.
A company spokesperson highlighted the significant role played by the G-Valley Medical Device Development Support Center in facilitating export-related consultations, investor meetings, and business model validation. Additionally, the center has helped Synergy AI form valuable connections with organizations capable of handling overseas approvals, sales, and marketing. Synergy AI also benefited from the center’s insights into technology trends and key patent strategy development.
