American Heart Association And Hy-Vee Team to Teach Hands-Only CPR

by Amy

The American Heart Association (AHA) is partnering with Hy-Vee to offer free hands-only CPR education in Rock Island.

This training event takes place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 3 to 5 PM at the Rock Island Hy-Vee store located at 2930 18th Ave. The session is open to anyone interested in learning this lifesaving skill, including youth aged 9 and older if accompanied by a parent or guardian. No registration is required, and walk-ins are welcome.

Hands-only CPR involves performing chest compressions without rescue breaths and has been shown to be as effective as traditional CPR in the first few minutes of an adult cardiac emergency. Learning hands-only CPR can significantly increase a cardiac victim’s chance of survival, potentially doubling or tripling it.

Hy-Vee is also supporting the AHA’s fundraising campaign, Life Is Why™, encouraging customers to round up their purchases in May to help fight cardiovascular disease.

Matt Brant from the American Heart Association discussed this opportunity on Our Quad Cities News, highlighting the importance of bystander CPR and community preparedness in saving lives during cardiac emergencies.

In summary, the event provides a convenient, no-cost way for community members to gain essential CPR skills that can make a critical difference in emergencies.
