GREENBRAE, Calif. — MarinHealth has officially launched a new Cardiothoracic Surgery Program, expanding the capabilities of its Heart and Vascular Institute to provide advanced surgical care for patients with complex heart and chest conditions.
Based at MarinHealth Medical Center, the new program brings together a team of nationally recognized experts specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. The initiative aims to deliver top-tier care across California, offering procedures such as aortic and mitral valve repair or replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting, minimally invasive surgeries, and re-operations for patients with previous heart surgeries.
“Our goal is to provide world-class surgical care with the best possible outcomes,” said Dr. Luis Castro, Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Medical Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at MarinHealth. “We have the expertise and patient volume to match the standards of leading academic centers.”
The program’s strength lies in its integrated, multidisciplinary approach. Cardiothoracic surgeons collaborate closely with specialists in cardiovascular medicine, anesthesiology, radiology, and critical care to design individualized treatment plans.
This ensures patients receive continuous, coordinated care—from diagnosis through recovery.
The team also leverages the latest advancements in surgical technology. By offering minimally invasive techniques, they aim to reduce recovery times and improve overall outcomes. Their proficiency in complex re-operative surgeries further distinguishes the program, giving high-risk patients another option for care even after multiple prior procedures.
“Our multidisciplinary care model ensures every patient benefits from the collective expertise of an experienced team,” said Dr. David Klein, CEO of MarinHealth Medical Center. “This new program reflects our deep and ongoing commitment to delivering the highest standard of cardiac care to the communities we serve.”
With the launch of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Program, MarinHealth reinforces its position as a regional leader in cardiovascular care, offering patients access to innovative treatment and expert surgical teams closer to home.
