Sound Transit has officially joined the American Heart Association’s “Hard Hats with Heart” initiative as a sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to the health and well-being of construction workers across the Puget Sound region.
The Hard Hats with Heart program is designed to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke among construction workers by promoting awareness and education about cardiovascular health. Through this partnership, Sound Transit will contribute $100,000 over the next four years to help support health education and wellness resources for workers in the construction industry.
“With Sound Transit’s capital expansion plans across the region, this sponsorship will have a huge impact on the lives of thousands of workers in Washington state,” said Terri Mestas, Deputy CEO of Capital Delivery at Sound Transit. “We are proud to support the American Heart Association’s mission to improve lives in our community.”
As part of the agreement, Sound Transit will work alongside the American Heart Association to provide employees and craft workers with resources to better manage their physical and mental health. Key focus areas include education on hypertension, physical activity, healthy eating, tobacco cessation, and training in Hands-Only CPR.
Additional resources from the American Heart Association will also be made available to Sound Transit employees throughout the sponsorship period, reinforcing the agency’s broader efforts to promote health and safety in the workplace.
