The National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) has introduced a new programme to help prevent heart disease and support heart health as people age.
Called the Cardiovascular Ageing and Longevity (CRANE) programme, it aims to expand NHCS’s clinical research by creating and testing treatments specifically for older adults in everyday settings.
CRANE’s research will include identifying and validating markers of ageing, studying the basic causes of how the heart and blood vessels age, and examining how these processes differ between men and women.
The programme will also focus on special areas such as heart health in older cancer patients (geriatric cardio-oncology), repairing heart damage through regenerative medicine, and public health strategies to improve cardiovascular wellbeing in the population.
